On the road again (06 jan 09)

I'm in Davis, California, two days into a six month bike tour on a recumbent bicycle - a HP Velotechnik Street machine from Germany.

It's the Bentley of bikes.

Full suspension, disk brakes, the works.

My last tour was on a conventional bike. After a week, every part of me that touches the bike hurt. When I got back, my hands tingled for a week. I'll leave the rest to your imagination. On a recumbent, it's like sitting on a recliner chair with your feet up. You do have to pedal - especially when going uphill. You can carry more stuff. I found the easiest way to carry my backpack was to wear it - the bike is even more comfortable leaing back on a pack. More soon.
