What happens if the Greeks welch on their debts - or vice versa? (25 jun 11)

Doesn't this journalist know the etymology of the phrase 'to welch'? Yes, it's a discriminatory term, derived from the word 'Welsh', meaning the people of Wales. Long ago, English people thought the Welsh were more likely to welch. So to accuse the Greeks of being prone to welching is deeply offensive to them. The Welsh, I mean.
