rod mclaughlinYou can't make it up LXXIV - climate change blamed for Permian extinction and ISIS (31 may 15)
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/may/27/threat-islamic-state-fossil-fuel-burning It's true, as Monbiot claims, that "catastrophic climate change probably destroyed 96% of species at the end of the Permian period" 250 million years ago, and that that period was associated with an increase in CO2. It is also true that there was a lot more going on, as a result of volcanic activity, than a lot of extra carbon dioxide. It is equally true that another major catastrophe 2.3 billion years ago was associated with a massive decrease in CO2, as photosynthetic organisms replaced it with O2. It is not true at all that climate change has anything to do with ISIS. Back
