Mixing miles and meters (03 dec 11)

In Britain, people drive miles to hike metres uphill. The only other people in the world to use both the imperial and metric systems are the US military.

British schoolchildren have to be bright to be able to answer questions like "how long does it take a 400 metre train to travel its own length when proceeding at 225 mph?".

"The line will run from London Euston station to the National Exhibition Centre near Birmingham, carrying 400-metre long trains at speeds of up to 225 mph."
